Delhi government-run Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (RGSSH) has decided to inquire into the deaths of 3 patients who died of heart problems in a single day.

The matter came into notice after the family of a deceased heart patient complained that the hospital had used faulty heart stents for implantation, which caused the death. Dr Sanjay Agarwal, the medical director said an inquiry had been ordered into the matter.

On Monday, a total of 3 patients with poor heart conditions died in the facility. According to sources, 1 patient came to the OPD with breathing difficulties and was taken immediately for a heart stent implant, where the patient succumbed within an hour. The other patient had been admitted to the hospital’s emergency, while the third was referred from GTB hospital. An official from the hospital told that the other two patients were brought to the hospital in very critical condition. No impact was there on the other services of the hospital due to the incident.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Delhi BJP unit spokesperson in a letter to CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote that a few months ago, six patients had died in RGSSH under suspicious circumstances and the sudden death of three patients soon after a stent operation on Tuesday had shocked both the patients and their family members in east Delhi. He alleged that the government should investigate the matter and provide compensation to the patient’s families.
